Lorna Robb originally trained as a dance instructor with Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios. With hundreds of studios world-wide Fred Astaire Dance Studios employed some of the best in the business and Lorna had the opportunity to train with dance champions and choreographers that are often seen on the dance shows so popular today. She competed professionally all over North America: including Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Miami. Her love of Ballroom and Latin dancing was directly related to how it changed her life and others. When she moved to Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Toronto her focus changed from her own competitive dancing to Pro-Am competitions. Because her students enjoyed the progress in dancing they made with Lorna, many of them trusted her when she recommended they attend dance competitions. She won Top Teacher at many of these events thanks to the high scores of her students. "I'm very proud of my more advanced students", exclaims Robb, "but my preference is to teach beginners. When people realize how fun, easy and beneficial dancing can be I know I have done a good job and that keeps me excited to go to the dance studio every day!"
Upon moving to British Columbia, Lorna thought she would take a break from her over 20 year dancing career. That did not last long. Today she is the owner/instructor of Cheek to Cheek Dance Studio in downtown Vernon and is ecstatic to see how her love of dancing has helped the dance community in Vernon grow. She has thrown herself whole-heartedly into the city she calls home. One of her favourite activities is the planning of the North Okanagan Hospice Society fundraiser Dancing with the Vernon Stars, which she organizes with fellow dancer Dean Cebuliak of Digital Dean Photography.
Cheek to Cheek Dance Studio specializes in Social Dance Style which is designed for smaller dance floors and can be done to Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Latin, Ballroom, Pop and Country music. I like to teach people dances they can use right here in the Okanagan. We have some amazing musicians that live here or travel through. I like to support the local events and try to prepare my students to do the same. You will find Lorna any day of the week either at her studio or at a local dance. Don't be self-conscious about your dancing when you see her. Her motto is "I don't care how people are dancing as long as they are dancing and having fun!"
